Policy
Tuition
Method of payment to be agreed upon between student and teacher. Not included in the tuition are the following: instrument, case, metronome, music, music stand, accompaniment fees, and application fees for festivals.
Practicing
The most important thing about practicing is to do it every day. Consistency is necessary for doing well. Very young students may practice 10 minutes but do it many times throughout the day. Parental involvement is essential at this stage. Older students should practice according to their levels. Usually a 30-minute practice session is bare minimum for an older beginner student. Each lesson the students may bring their own recording device, and the lessons recorded to help them remember how to practice during the entire week.
Missed Lessons
Make-up lessons will be given at the teacher’s discretion. Please be aware that there is a courtesy involved when you notify the teacher of impending absences, i.e. orchestra rehearsals, vacations, etc. If a student becomes ill on the day of the lesson please call me as soon as possible. Unless notified of impending absence more than 24 hours in advance (except in extreme emergency) before scheduled lesson time, student will be charged for scheduled time. If there are too many cancellations (whatever the reason) the teacher reserves the right to suggest another teacher.
Performances
There will be at least one recital (usually early spring) and other events scheduled during the year. Students should take advantage of performance opportunities in all workshops, recitals, festivals, and competitions for which the teacher, student, and parent feel he is prepared. At least once each year the student is expected to perform publicly.
